Abstract

Introduction: Due to its properties, platelet preparations are useful in the control of bacterial growth in the burned skin.

Objective: To analyze physiological mechanisms that platelets may have to control the infection, when applied in the local burning cure.

Methods: A review of the publications of the years 2008-2023, in English and Spanish, on the regenerative treatment with platelet-rich plasm and the platelet lysate of open and closed injuries with the presence of infectious agents, were carried out. Search was carried out in Medline database, through the Pubmed, and Scielo, through its search engine; Academic Google was also used. The most used keywords were infection and platelets. 63 national and international publications were reviewed, 32 of which  were relevant for this work.

Conclusions: Platelet rich formulations have microbicidal action against an important number of bacteria that colonize burns, also stimulate the epithelization of damaged skin.
