Abstract

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Acute myeloid leukemia is the result of malignant transformation of hematopoietic stem cells.

Objective: To characterize clinically and epidemiologically adult patients under 60 years of age with non-promyelocytic acute myeloid leukemia, comparing the doses of daunorubicin in induction treatment.

Material and method: An observational, analytical, longitudinal and retrospective study was carried out in which adult patients under 60 years of age diagnosed with non-promyelocytic acute myeloid leukemia and treated in induction with high and standard doses of daunorubicin were included, at the Institute of Hematology and Immunology from January 2013 to December 2019.

Results: The group from 18 to 49 years was the most frequent with a mean of 42.1 years; 54.1% were female, normal weight prevailed (64.7%) in both groups with p= 0,02. 71,8% had no comorbidities and 64.7% had visceromegaly. 75.3% with a functional status on scale 0 with p=0.006. Complete remission after induction treatment regardless of the dose of daunorubicin used was 56.5% with a predominance for patients who received high doses (66.1%) and p=0.013.

Conclusions: The clinical-epidemiological characteristics of adult patients with non-promyelocytic acute myeloid leukemia treated in induction with both doses of daunorubicin are similar to those reported in the literature, but the complete response achieved was significant for those who underwent regimens with high doses.
