Abstract

Introduction: The use of soft tissue substitutes is of fundamental importance in clinical practice since autogenous gingiva grafting, considered the gold standard, has numerous limitations.
Objective: To evaluate the use of platelet-rich fibrin from the results of its application in an Ecuadorian patient.

Methods: The research had an epidemiological design, descriptive level and consisted of the development of a dental clinical case. The study unit was a 48-year-old Ecuadorian patient with bilateral edentulism in the premolar and lower molar regions, absence of a keratinized mucosal strip and a shallow groove, which made prosthetic adaptation difficult, as well as horizontal bone atrophy in the edentulous regions. mentioned before. The sinus membrane elevation technique was applied using bone grafts and membranes.

Results: The use of platelet-rich fibrin may improve root coverage in cases of multiple gingival recession. It is a promising alternative to replace the autogenous gingival graft, especially in situations in which the amount of donor tissue is insufficient to repair large areas.

Conclusions: Platelet-rich fibrin matrices are gaining prominence in the scientific community, because they are obtained from the patient's own blood and eliminate the risk of disease transmission, in addition to their regenerative potential.
