Critically ill adult patients with malignant hematological disease and their care in intensive care units

Abstract

Introduction: Improvements in the prognosis of malignant hematological diseases mean that at some point during their illness these patients are treated in intensive care units. For hematologist and intensives, the management of seriously ill patients is a challenge.Objectives: To analyze the characteristics of seriously ill patients with malignant hematological disease and their care in intensive care units.

Methods: Bibliographical-documentary research on the subject was carried out. Articles from the last ten years, in English and Spanish, were consulted in databases such as SciELO, ScienceDirect, Medline, and Pubmed.

Conclusions: Knowledge of care and management of seriously ill patients with malignant hematological disease allows adequate monitoring and the creation of individual strategies to improve the survival of these patients in intensive care.
