Abstract

Introduction: Acne vulgaris, common in adolescents and young adults, is a chronic obstructive and inflammatory condition of the pilosebaceous follicles, characterized by the formation of inflammatory or non-inflammatory lesions. Its pathogenesis involves various factors, including alterations in interpersonal relationships and the patient's appearance.

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of topical platelet lysate treatment in patients with grade I and II facial acne vulgaris.

Methods: A quasi-experimental therapeutic intervention study was conducted on 30 patients with a clinical diagnosis of grade I-II facial acne vulgaris, treated at the "Dr. Juan Bruno Zayas Alfonso" General Teaching Hospital in Santiago de Cuba, from 2018 to 2020. Two groups were formed: Group I, treated with topical autologous platelet lysate, and Group II (control group), treated with 0.1% adapalene cream. Platelet lysate was obtained from the Renato Guitard Provincial Blood Bank. The data were processed in a database using SPSS version 20.1; percentages were used as summary measures.

Results: 70% of the patients were between 19 and 25 years old; 60% were female; and all had grade II acne, with 11 to 40 lesions on the forehead. There were no significant differences between the groups. At the end of treatment, 73.3% of patients in group I and 40% in group II were lesion-free.

Conclusions: Application of topical platelet lysate was effective in the patients, with no adverse reactions reported.
