Authors

Abstract

Introduction: Cardiovascular diseases derived from the cardiotoxic effect of chemotherapy are considered one of the main causes of death in cancer survivors. In patients with acute myeloid leukemia, the incidence of sudden death due to cardiac events constitutes a challenge to increasing survival.

Objectives: To describe the general features of cardiovascular alterations resulting from the cardiotoxic effects of chemotherapy in adult patients with acute myeloid leukemia.

Methods: A bibliographic-documentary investigation that covered works from the last five years, in Spanish and English, indexed in the SciELO and PubMed databases was carried out.

Analysis and synthesis of information: The general aspects of cardiovascular alterations resulting from the cardiotoxic effects of chemotherapy in adult patients with acute myeloid leukemia are described.

Conclusions: Knowledge of the cardiovascular alterations derived from the cardiotoxic effect of chemotherapy in adult patients with acute myeloid leukemia allows adequate monitoring and the creation of individual strategies to improve the survival of these patients.
