History of Hematology: relevant moments in the world, the Americas and Cuba

Introduction: It is undeniable that there have been substantial advances in the training and specialized practice of professionals in the area of hematology, which are conceived with an approach that transcends, in turn nourishes and increases this vast area of knowledge, in the academic, scientific and attentional aspects; which makes it essential to know the history of hematology, in the world, the region of the Americas and Cuba.
Objective: To describe the essential aspects of the historical evolution of hematology, its transcendent moments and the main contributions.
Methods: A search was carried out in the Google Scholar/Scholar, PubMed, SciELO Regional, SciELO Public Health, SciELO Cuba engines. In the search strategy, the following terms were used: hematology and history. With an extensive literature review in English, Spanish and Portuguese articles and published books.
Conclusion: the essential aspects of the historical evolution of hematology, its transcendent moments and the main contributions to the specialty, its antecedents, the foundations and the dedication of hematology were described.
